Spindle Motors (Hard Disk Drive Motors)
Hard Disk Drive (HDD) spindle motors are what cause the disks in HDDs to rotate. The precision of these motors determine the capacity and speed of HDDs, making these components critical to HDD performance. Spindle motors carry storage disks, which are rotated around their own axis (spindle). In this way, the moving reading and writing heads can magnetize and demagnetize the magnetic layers, which speeds up and intensifies the encoding of digital information on the disks. Accordingly, these motors must offer superior performance in terms of rotational speed and low Non-Repeatable Run Out (NRRO).

Features
The spindle motor offers superior performance in terms of:
- extremely quiet running and high running accuracy
- high rotational speed, up to 15000 rpm
- low acoustic noise level
- long working life due to lack of mechanical wear
- low electric power consumption
Applications
Spindle motors are used in all kinds of HDDs, such as:
- 3.5″ HDDs for PCs, servers (professional storage systems), consumer electronics, e.g. video games consoles, digital video recorders
- 2.5″ HDDs for laptops, servers, notebooks, consumer electronics, e.g. mp3 music players, digital video recorders, navigation systems
